Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things....
Our volunteers are community members with a variety of professional and educational backgrounds. No special experience is necessary. All CASA volunteers are carefully screened and receive expert training before being assigned to a child's case. CASA advocate volunteers must be able to:
- participate fully in a comprehensive 30-hour training program
- make a commitment for 12 months, approximately 5-8 hours per month
- communicate effectively
- relate in a positive, objective manner to children, families, and other professionals
We welcome volunteers from all cultures, professions, ethnic and educational backgrounds. We have a particular need for bilingual volunteers, men, and people of color.
Court Appointed Special Advocates believe children deserve every chance for a safe, loving permanent home. Trained community volunteers are appointed by a judge to speak for abused and neglected children in court.
CASAs, working with attorneys, social workers and others involved in the child's life, gather information to present to the court. With the information provided by CASAs, judges are able to make informed decisions as to what is in the "best interests" of the child. These decisions can occur in a more timely fashion so that children still have a chance at childhood.
You can make a difference in the life of an abused or neglected child. Consider becoming a CASA VOLUNTEER today. A child is waiting....
